Hemp seeds can be infused with beer to create a one-of-a-kind cannabis beverage
TruthOnPot.com – Hemp-infused beer has been around for a while, but hasn’t caught on as quickly as other hemp products. Although various brands are available in Canada and parts of Europe, hemp beer is still hard to find in the U.S.
Luckily, if you live in Washington and haven’t had the opportunity to sample this beverage, two Seattle-based breweries are planning to change that.
Redhook Brewery and Hilliard’s Beer have joined forces to create a new brand of hemp beer that they’ve dubbed “Joint Effort Hemp Ale.” Infused with hemp seeds and dry-hopped, the companies describe it as having a “dank, resinous hop aroma balanced by nutty, earthiness from hemp seeds.”
Besides the obvious marketing advantage, the idea of brewing beer from hemp seeds actually makes a lot of sense. Like hemp, the traditional ingredient in beer, hops, comes from the same family of plants called Cannabinaceae. Beer made from hemp also offers a number of nutritional benefits that regular beer does not.
The Seattle brewers claim that Joint Effort is the “perfect brew for hanging with your buds, grabbing some munchies and enjoying a beer.” While it won’t get you high, the session ale measures a respectable 5.6% ABV.
Redhook also happens to have a reputation for creative tap handles and their new hemp brew attests to that. Bartenders will be serving Joint Effort from a handle that looks very much like a bright yellow bong.
In celebration of marijuana legalization in the state, Joint Effort will be available on tap beginning July 15th with a bottled version set for release in late October.
A launch party is also being held on July 20th at Hilliard’s Tap Room in Ballard. The companies say the event is open and, if you’re in the area, feel free to drop by at 4:20.
